La cucaracha me hizo bailar
2025 – Peru (Amazon)

During my travels in South-America I stayed one month at the Sachaqa art residency in the Peruvian Amazon. The result was a 10 minute long performance, called “La cucaracha me hizo bailar” (The cockroach made me dance) performed within a decor of naturally dyed fabrics. The performance adresses the paradox between living in the middle of the jungle, but not wanting any animals in your house. For me this was a way to deal with my initial fear of cockroaches, and turn it into a subject of study. For this work I learned more about creating a performance, as well as spinning my own wool, dyeing with plants found in the jungle and storytelling. Through observing the jungle, connecting with the people of the village and discussing with the other artists at the residency, I created a work of art that summarizes my month of living in the jungle.
The end of the residency was marked by a small exhibition in the village. More photos from this exhibition can be found at the exhibition page.
